I’ve heard it said that when you get really good at something, everything starts to slow down. You start to go through the process, and you can see things happening and anticipate and react without being hurried or getting anxious. It’s that way with sports and hobbies and even maybe part of your job. Some things can be stressful, but at some point they become easy. People will look at you and say, "You make that look so easy even when it’s not. Take a quarterback for instance or maybe a baseball player that’s great. A great player has the ability to focus in the midst of distractions and noise. A quarterback needs to develop the ability to tune out the crowd, the clock, or even a mistake made on the last series so that they can lead effectively. If he can remain calm and stay focused, he can deal rightly with the situation at hand, but if he’s hurried in his mind, he can fail. So how does this apply to us as we’re out here just going through everyday life? When we’re able to focus on the most important things and not get distracted, we too, can live a productive life. Deciding what is most important and eliminating the unimportant will bring a peacefulness to life and keep small things from dominating our thoughts and stealing our time. One of the things that I’ve started doing recently is to make a "not do" list. Think about it. What if you just eliminated the things that pull you away from the most important things? What if you didn’t waste time or energy on the small things that distract you? If you get distracted, check your list and decide you’re not going to do that. The Bible is an instruction manual for a good life and it’ll help you set a list for the best way to live. It tells its readers things to do and not do, but it’s more than just a book of do’s and don’ts. It’ll help reveal how a living God has a good plan for our lives and when we give God a place in our life, he’ll help us. Jeremiah 29:11 says that God knows the plans that he has for you and that they’re good plans with a future and a hope.
